BUKIT TIMAH – Think about the most authentic Italian restaurants you know of, and we can bet that almost all of them probably have an Italian chef and/or owner behind the helm. Well, Ristorante Da Valentino is run by not just one Italian native, but an entire Italian family including chef Valentino, his wife, mother, sister and brother-in-law, so you know the food is going to be legit Italian just like you’d find in the motherland.

This place has been around for ages, but they’ve still managed to maintain their friendly family-run atmosphere with warm, personalised service and top notch classic Italian dishes like bruschetta, calamari, pizzas, pastas and grilled meats, plus a few special creations made with imported seasonal Italian ingredients. Chef Valentino, his family and their dedicated staff really put their hearts into the restaurant and it really shines through in everything they do.
What we love:
You can’t go wrong with antipasti to share, especially if you go with a group of friends or family. We love the Prosciutto & Melone, the Bruschetta Miste, a mixed bruschetta platter, and the Mixed Mushroom sauteed with garlic and butter. The pizzas are also good for sharing, and they come with a nice thin crispy crust with toppings that are always fresh and flavourful. For mains we love the Filetto di Pesce alla Siciliana, a pan-fried snapper in a light tomato sauce, and the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a whopping 1kg Australian porterhouse steak.
If you want to try a decent selection of dishes without spending a fortune ordering up the entire menu, head to Valentino’s for their $45++ lunch buffet that takes place between 12pm and 2pm, Tuesday to Friday when they’ve got a great spread of antipasti, pizzas, pastas, stews and desserts.
Antipasti starts at about $14.90++ a plate, pizzas average about $25++, and main courses range anywhere from $30++ to $238++ for the Bistecca alla Fiorentina.
