Looking for a quaint spot in Boat Quay where you can grab good food and drinks without having to battle the crowds in the bustling bar and pub scene? Make your way to Our Village, an Indian and Sri Lankan spot where the vibes are chill, the food is flavourful and the rooftop dining area offers awesome views over the water.

If you’re looking for a relaxed evening with friends and tasty bites, Our Village is a great hidden gem located on the fourth and fifth floors of a shophouse in busy Boat Quay, but with an atmosphere that seems a world away from all the action on the street below. Plus, there aren’t too many places to sample Sri Lankan cuisine in Singapore, so this is a good opportunity to try some new dishes that you may not have had before.
What we love:
The night we stopped by, the fourth floor was empty, so the host took us up to the beautiful rooftop patio decked out in wooden tables and soft lighting. It was raining at the start of the evening, but the awning kept us dry, and once the rain stopped there was a lovely breeze and absolutely gorgeous views of Marina Bay Sands and Boat Quay ahead of us.
The food being served was mostly Indian with a few Sri Lankan dishes making their way out of the kitchen. The waiters knew all the dishes by number, which we found kind of funny, and they were out of half the wines on the list. The portions were small, but we must say the food was tasty. In fact, we really should have ordered more.
Our favourite dishes were theGosht Samosas ($3.60 per piece), which pretty much melted in our mouths, theMas Curry ($21.70)with chunks of tender lamb in a rich gravy, and theButter Chicken. We also ordered naan, rice and hoppers on the side soak up all the sauces and the masalas that come with the food. We didn’t get a chance to dig into desserts unfortunately, but we’ll be back again, so next time we might give the sweets a try.
UJ Tidbit:
Definitely snag a seat on the rooftop if you can, because the views add a whole new level to the experience. We suggest grabbing a bunch of friends and swinging by on a Sunday evening around sunset for a really chilled out dinner followed by a good night’s sleep on a sated belly.
