OSO, Now at Oasia Hotel Downtown

by URBAN JOURNEY

Oso Ristorante recently moved from their cozy shophouse on Bukit Pasoh Road to the 27th floor of the new Oasis Hotel Downtown in Tanjong Pagar, so we had to visit to find out what their new lofty location was all about. Change can either make or break a restaurant, and in this case we find that the new digs are a much-welcomed change.

Why you should come here:

Oso’s new space sits between the Oasis Hotel’s two rooftop pools with vine-covered trellises flanking the entranceway. Step inside and you find big glass windows that let in natural light, various dining areas that offer intimate vibes, and classy decor like hardwood floors, huge black and white glamour photos, rustic brick walls and hanging chandeliers. The menu retains the same standard of classic and contemporary Italian fare made with high-quality ingredients, and there are a few new dishes that are definitely going to win over both long-time fans and new diners.

What we love:

We went on a Saturday night and were greeted by our old friends in a buzzing atmosphere that was just what we needed on a weekend night. We started off with drinks and appetizers at the bar, then moved to a table for dinner. In the middle of dinner, we heard a saxophonist play, apparently you’ll be able to catch him Sunday nights from now on. It added a nice touch to the ambiance.

Our favouriteBurrata ($22)appetizer had run out, but theAffetati ($24)included a great choice of cold cut meats that were fresh and tasty, so we didn’t mind trying something new. For dinner we ordered the lovelyAngel Hair ($24)pasta with an arrabiata style sauce and luscious crab meat, as well as theVeal Milanese ($48), which has been an all-time favourite from the old menu, so we were glad to find that it still tastes amazing. To finish off the meal we went for a cheese plate, and it was the perfect end to the meal.

OK, so we didn’t really try many dishes from the new menu because we were happy to stick to what we knew, but we loved the sexy new vibe and the fact that the new options were there.

The portions were a little small for our liking (we do have big appetites), but everything tasted pretty good, so we still left happy.

UJ Tidbit:

Oso Ristorante proves that change is a good thing with their new vibey space in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. Start with a glass or two of red from their stellar wine list, then segue into a beautiful meal of authentic Italian flavours and recipes. If you’re looking for a place with a bit of a vibe to hit up for dinner and drinks on a weekend night, Oso Ristorante is your spot.
