We’re long time fans of Kilo Kallang, ahidden gemlocated in the middle of nowhere that’s worth scouting out. We find ourselves returning for the laid-back underground vibe, fabulous fusion food, and the enticingbarthat’s perfect for low-key drinks with your mates. In our view, Kilo is unquestionably one ofSingapore’s coolest foodandwatering dens. So upon hearing it had recently revamped its menu, we thought it about time to visit our trusty friend and sample what new foodie delights the talented team have concocted.

What we love:

Kilo holds fort in an old storage warehouse next to the Kallang River and we love the ambience and decor. Think smooth concrete floors, wooden chairs, glass-topped tables, abstract paintings, and wide windows that allow the breeze to waft in. Cool tunes play in the background and the servers are always smiling and welcoming. We like grabbing a table for dinner, then heading back to the chilled bar for post-feed drinks.

The new menu is a fabulous mix of globally-inspired plates. We started with the Kilo ceviche, a colourful cornucopia of tuna, snapper, and octopus with crunchy red pepper and corn, smooth avocado, cherry tomatoes, and a tangy dressing. The wanton chips on the side were a nice touch. The inked rice with crispy baby squid had great textures and seasoning, and the spicy pomelo salad was oh-so refreshing. Our favourite dish of the evening was the slow-cooked lamb with garlic sour cream, cherry tomato salsa, crispy rice balls, and flatbread. If you’re a meat lover, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Why we’ll be back:

With so many enticing restaurants opening all the time in Singapore we love trying new spots, but Kilo is just one of those places that we find ourselves returning to time after time. The food is always way above average and we have a great experience every time we go. This is a good spot to take an out-of-towner for fab fusion dishes in a unique setting.

UJ tidbit:

Kilo may not always have the buzziest vibe going on, so we suggest rocking up with a decent sized crew to get your own party started. There’s plenty of space to spread out, so go ahead and invite as many people as you like.

Damage:

$40++ per person excluding alcoholic beverages.
