Here’s what happened on our Culinary Food Journey at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

by Steph

In case it’s not already obvious, we absolutely love the culinary offerings at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. With so many chic restaurants, world-famous chefs and gourmet brands at nearly every turn, there are definitely dining options for all. In fact, we’re so enamoured with the food options there that we recently threw a culinary event where we invited 10 readers and 10 influencers to join us for an evening of cocktails and cuisines at some of our favourite restaurants.

Food Events SingaporeGiven that Singapore is a nation of foodies, we weren’t surprised that the guest list filled up fast, and so with 20 hungry people in tow, we set off on a feasting mission. The party was divided into two groups, and each group visited a different combination of restaurants. One groups started off at Blossom for delicious dim sum and duck, and went onto Justin Quek’s casual eatery JustIN Flavours of Asia and ended the evening at Angelina. The other group started at Sen of Japan to try some dishes from the new menu, then to Punjab Grill and ended at JustIN Flavours of Asia.

All up it was an amazing evening of exceptional eats with welcome surprises at every turn. Everyone was excited to try new places and plates they’d never had before and experience some dishes that they might not have chosen if they had come on their own. Here are just a few of the signature and special dishes we sampled and swooned over and check out this video to see the night in action!

Blossom

Culinary Food Events in SingaporeThe meal at Blossom started off on a high note with a delish dim sum platter that included Steamed Vegetarian Dumpling with Truffle Oil, Crispy Swan Puff with Cod Fish in Cream Sauce, and Deep-fried Golden Pumpkin Cake Stuffed with Cheese. However, the star of the show was the Signature Smoked Duck, which was revealed with a smoky flourish and had beautifully crunchy skin on the outside and succulent meat inside.

Sen of Japan

Best Restaurants at Marina Bay SandsThe second group indulged in some seriously sensational steak, seafood and sushi at Sen of Japan. We indulged in a Sake Trio Tasting Set and all sakes were paired with a signature dish. First up was the buttery Japanese A5 Omi Wagyu Sriploin Steak that seemed to melt in our mouths, followed by Mekajiki Swordfish Steak with sides of sweet potato puree, then we went on the surf and turf route with Mala Soft Shell Crab Roll. The quality of the ingredients really shone through in every dish.

JustIN Flavours of Asia

Dining at MBS

Singaporean celebrity chef Justin Quek takes inspiration from local classics and infuses them with a bit of flair at this all-day eatery overlooking the Marina Bay skyline. To get the party started we tried a few of the handcrafted cocktails including the refreshing Green Lantern with gin, cucumber and lime, and the fruit-forward JQ Singapore Sling. Then it was all about refined comfort food bites like the Sea Urchin Har Gow, Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao and Signature Prawn Noodles.

Angelina

Food Events SingaporeThe first group ended the food trail with a stop at Angelina for a selection of Parisian-style pastries and after-dinner tea and hot chocolate. The pastries were so lovely that they were almost too pretty to eat, but we managed to set the aesthetics aside and dig in. Our favourite was the classic Opera with an almond chocolate biscuit soaked in coffee, a crunchy praline biscuit, and a rich coffee and milk chocolate mousse.

Punjab GrillButter Chicken Punjab GrillPunjab Grill put on quite the spread for us and we had a theatrical start to our meal with a round of flaming dried rose and coconut flambe cocktails. Dinner consisted of a dreamy Daal dish, Signature Butter Chicken that we’ll definitely be coming back for, and a vegetarian Kofta Kebab made from Impossible plant-based meat. The meal ended just as brilliantly as it started with a creamy Saffron Pista Kulfi for dessert.
