Crystal Jade Golden Palace

by URBAN JOURNEY

It may be mall dining, but Crystal Jade Golden Palace is no fast food, casual eating kind of place. Instead, this is a much sought-after spot for upscale Chinese fare. In fact, they recently earned a well-deserved Michelin star, and they’re definitely at the top of our list of favouriteMichelin-starred restaurantsin Singapore. This branch of the Crystal Jade group specialises in Teochew and Cantonese cuisine, so you can expect classic dishes as well as a few modern twists.

Why you should come here:

The decor here is pretty swank with high wood-panelled ceilings, sparkling chandeliers and crisp tablecloths on all of the tables, yet the vibe is buzzy with couples and groups passing around decadent dishes and dim sum delicacies. The menu is huge, so you have tons of options to choose from including dim sum, seafood, vegetarian dishes, and a range of set menus that make ordering for large groups a breeze.

What we love:

We like that the decor is classy and the service is very professional, yet the atmosphere is anything but stuffy. And of course, as you would expect of a Michelin-starred joint, the food is spot on. Some of our favourites from the menu include the Chilled Foie Gras with Japanese Sake, the Signature Roasted Suckling Pig with crispy skin and tender meat, and the Boston Lobster sauteed with XO sauce.

If you’re in the mood for a dim sum brunch, this is definitely a great spot to check out for decently priced small plates like the Char Siew Bao, soft fluffy buns filled with sweet and savoury pork, Liu Sha Bao, a steamed custard bun filled with creamy salted egg yolk, and Prawn & Carrot Dumplings with black truffle. If you’ve got little ones, order up the Deep-fried Diced Abalone & Turnip Dumplings in Jumbo Shape and watch them giggle when the cute animal-shaped pieces arrive at the table.

UJ Tidbit:

We suggest coming here with a group so that you can try a variety of different dishes. If you’re coming for a celebration or with kids in tow, they have private rooms where you can have your own special party. Keep in mind that Crystal Jade Golden Palace does get packed out, especially during peak dining hours (and especially since they received their Michelin star), so reservations are highly recommended.

Damage:

Dim sum dishes average about $6 to $8 each, and the set menus start at $48++ per person.
