Dim sum, hot and sour soup, Peking duck, and Szechuan chilli chicken are just four reasons why Chinese food is up there on favourite cuisine list. Whether you’ve got a particular soft spot for Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, or any other regional flavours, it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll find somewhere in Singapore serving up your favourite dishes. But in case you needed inspo, here are five plates at five Chinese restaurants you need to try.
1. Herbal roast duck at Dian Xiao Er
Because who doesn’t love a crisp roasted duck? At Dian Xiao Er, the finest quality Cherry Valley ducks are marinated in a house herbal blend and roasted to crisp perfection daily. Expect tender, juicy flesh and a golden brown skin that, when combined with the herb sauce, is a flavour explosion impossible to resist.
2. Samsui ginger chicken at Soup Restaurant
Perhaps the reason why Chinese food tastes so good is that the recipes and cooking techniques have been honed over hundreds of years. And at Soup Restaurant you’ll get the chance to experience the traditional recipe of Samsui ginger chicken; a dish originating from the Samsui women of Chinatown in the 1930s and only consumed during Chinese New Year. The dish comprises steamed, succulent chicken wrapped in lettuce and dipped in a fragrant ginger sauce. A simple dish with humble roots that packs a punch in flavour.
3. Crisp-fried prawn with wasabi salad cream at Peach Garden
Calling all fans of Cantonese cooking: you need to visit Peach Garden!
