Brunch Goodness at COMO Cuisine

by URBAN JOURNEY

If you know us, then you’re probably aware that we have a love affair with brunch going on. After all, who can say no to chilling out for hours over good food and drinks? Plus you get the best of all meals rolled into one—brilliant brekkie dishes, indulgent lunch fare, light bites, sweet treats, life-giving coffee and maybe even a cocktail or two. COMO Cuisine has been on our radar for a while, so we decided to try it this past Saturday and we can honestly say we’ve found ourselves a solid new brunch crush.

Our experience:

COMO Cuisine Singapore is located just next door to The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar (another great love of ours) and it has the same minimalist white decor that puts you into a calm, zen-like state as soon as you walk through the doors. We settled in amid the hanging greenery and smooth wooden floors and got right down to scouring the brunch menu, which offers a great mix of internationally inspired savoury and sweet dishes.

We started with the prawn cocktail ($18) and were impressed with how fresh the prawns were. The tartness of the tomato dressing and kick from the horseradish added a nice contrast to the sweetness of the prawns. The tandoor chicken caesar ($26) was another light dish that was nicely layered with different textures from the avocado, corn and plantain chips.

If you want something heartier, we highly recommend the spiced lentils ($20) with toor dhal, curry, moringa, spinach and rice cakes. This explosion of flavours is something we would go back for over and over. And if meat is essential to your brunch experience, then the buttermilk fried chicken ($26) on a waffle with chilli maple will hit the spot. Be sure to save room for dessert because the ricotta pancakes ($18) with banana, butterscotch, salted caramel and crunchy nuts are to die for.

About:

The COMO Cuisine menu is inspired by signature dishes from their hotels and resorts around the world, so you get a wide variety of global flavours and cooking styles. The brand is also known for its commitment to wellness and sustainability, which is why there are tons of healthy options mixed in with a few more indulgent dishes. We also love that there’s a real focus on fresh local ingredients that are organic whenever possible.

UJ Tip:

This is a great spot to take people who are visiting from out of town for brunch because the ambiance is lovely, the decor is stylish and the food is fresh, vibrant and a little different from the usual cafes you find around the island. If you still have room after brunch and it isn’t too hot outside, we suggest popping over to Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar for a coffee and dessert on their outdoor veranda.
